The Friday Letter / No. 480 / Feb. 18, 2022
Last week the governors of five Democrat-ruled states suddenly lifted their edicts requiring private citizens to wear masks in public. (As demonstrated by Gavin Newsom, Stacy Abrams, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and others, neither state nor federal edicts apply to public figures.)
The states are California, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Oregon.
The reaction from state-friendly media was instant and in harmony, all agreeing that masks are no longer needed, not because of the well-established fact that they don't work, but because “the science has changed.” All read from the same script, not daring to change a word.
(This reminds me of V. Gene Robinson's explanation of why the Episcopal Church allowed him, a homosexual, to be consecrated as a bishop in 2003, overturning church law in place since Henry VIII created the Church of England in 1533. “God changed God's mind,” V. Gene explained. This is around the time, we might add, that God ceased to be the Father in leftist liturgy. “Our parental unit, who art in heaven. . .”)
Shortly after the mask orders were rescinded, state television CNN paraded its medical expert before cameras to announce that masks are no longer necessary. Leana Wen is a medical doctor, a professor of public health at George Washington University, and the former president of taxpayer-funded abortion mill Planned Parenthood.
“There was, and is, a time and place for pandemic restrictions,” she said. “But when they were put in, it was always with the understanding that they would be removed as soon as we can. And, in this case, circumstances have changed. Case counts are declining. Also, the science has changed.”
Dr. Wen did not explain how the science has changed, because it hasn't. Science does not change. Only our understanding of it does. Last time we looked, carbon monoxide was still had one molecule of carbon and one of oxygen.
The leftstream media are all running with the “science has changed” line. The science hasn't changed. The polls have. It's really that simple. Americans are fed up with the dictas, the condescending lectures, the governance by fiat. They are tired of being scolded like little children. The message finally got through to the White House, setting off a three-alarm bell and inciting near panic. State-friendly media quickly took the baton and ran with it.
Masks were necessary to stop the spread of the CCP coronavirus. Now they aren't. Mother Biden has everything under control. Please return to your normal lives and wait for further instructions.
The mask orders worked for a long time, daily indicators of the level of our gullibility and willingness to submit to authority. That's why they are called obedience masks. All you had to do was stand outside a grocery store, even in free states like Florida and Texas, and do a rough calculation of the percentages. It was almost possible to predict an election outcome by the level of compliance.
The scam is starting to tear at the seams, and Democrats know it. The game is up, as long as freedom lovers continue to push back – at restaurants, in school board meetings, in city parks, on trains and airplanes, at the state legislature. The rallying cry is Howard Beale's famous line from Network, “I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!”
It's not about science. It's about politics, and voters are stirring from their slumber. The question is, will their numbers be sufficient to overcome both state-sponsored election fraud and still too-high numbers of apathetic voters willing to let the rest of us carry the load?
Short takes on the news
Launchings. Concerned that Republican-controlled legislatures have done too little to prevent fraud in the upcoming midterms, AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, launches a drive to recruit poll watchers for November. And filmmaker Rick Schroder, 51, launches a drive to have Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd charged with the murder of Ashli Babbitt, the unarmed Air Force veteran he shot through a window inside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Schroder, who starred in the 1982-86 sitcom “Silver Spoons,” also wants stateside truckers to carry the banner hoisted by Canadian truckers by converging on Washington. . .
At The Federalist, Mollie Hemingway calls on Minority Leader McConnell to stop supporting state-friendly media descriptions of the Jan. 6 protest as an insurrection. In a tweet, McConnell said “It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power and legitimately certified elections, from one administration to the next.” McConnell, whom Hemingway calls “the least popular politician in the country,” criticized the RNC censure of defrocked GOP Reps. Cheney and Kinzinger. “Republicans have an obligation to fight Biden and Pelosi’s agenda, not serve as handmaidens to it,” Hemingway wrote. Could she be suggesting that we stop calling Jan. 6 “Insurrection Day” and replace it with “Ashli Babbitt Day”? Just asking. . .
Arrest those guns! In what must be the largest gun shakedown ever, Remington Arms agreed to pay $73 million to the families of 26 children and teachers murdered in the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, Insider reports. Remington agreed to the settlement despite legal protection from liability under the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which recognizes that only people can commit crimes, not the tools they use. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to overturn a Connecticut Supreme Court ruling which held Remington liable. Remington filed for bankruptcy in 2020, the plaintiffs' goals. . .
Headlines from The Blaze: Sandy Cortez urges Biden to cancel more student debt to buy votes for the mid-term elections; in the first school board recall in 40 years, San Francisco voters cashiered three leftwing members including the board president; a new report from Special Counsel Durham “definitely” proves that Hillary Clinton's campaign paid for the Russian collusion hoax.
Making silk from a sow's ear
The speed at which Justin Trudeau turned Canada into a dictatorship was breathtaking. Nobody stated the government's intentions better than Ontario Premier Doug Ford: “Let me be as clear as I can: There will be consequences for these actions, and they will be severe. This a pivotal moment for our nation.”
We start with a question: To which actions does Mr. Ford refer, traffic violations under the jurisdiction of the local police in Windsor, or the exercise of a basic human right? Assuming that Mr. Ford will decline to return our phone call, we won't go to the trouble but instead postulate that he and Mr. Trudeau are more in fear of Canadian truckers airing their grievances (crudely as it was) than in their blocking the bridge to Detroit.
It's a challenge to determine who has the deafest ear, Mr. Trudeau or Joe Biden. We will default to Mr. Trudeau, only because Mr. Biden's grasp of events – his mental acuity – is diminished. Biden's handlers are in charge of the U.S. regime, and their intentions are well known: to gain absolute control of our daily lives, everything we do and say, to erase any threat to one-party rule.
The ruling cabal may have taken its brazen act a bit too far when the administration threw its support behind the Canadian government crackdown. “On Thursday the Biden administration called on Canada to use federal powers to stop the trucker protests and offered assistance from the Department of Homeland Security,” The Blaze reported. White House press secretary Jen Psaki explained the regime's attack on the Canadian truckers: “Whatever their intended, stated purpose is, this effort is going to have the potential to have a huge impact on workers and the American public.”
Similar statements of support for the government's position came from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers, and the Business Roundtable, all Biden supporters.
Seizing fuel cans and cash and arresting one's political enemies doesn't sound like a brilliant campaign strategy. This sell-out out of the truckers is unlikely to endear Joe Biden to a working class of American voters who have already abandoned the Democrat Party in huge numbers. The story got little attention from establishment media. If it does, we wonder if this could be Biden's defining Waterloo.
Quote for today
“Though alarming and depressing, we can no longer avoid recognizing that America’s greatest domestic threat is from pro-government extremists. We rue that pro-government extremists caused immense destruction during their less-than-'peaceful protests' in 2020; and we witness the continuing damage caused by their neurotic, totalitarian response to a plethora of problems, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. . . .
“Their noxious ideology that the citizen is subordinate to the omnipotent state is incessantly 'normalized' and propagandized by their corporate media comrades.” – Thaddeus G. McCotter, writing at American Greatness.
